This last week we were dealing with a very sick co-worker, and it made me think… what guarantees do we have in this life? So many of us want a guarantee, and for some, decisions aren’t made unless there is one. Because of this lack of a sure thing, some won’t make any real choices…and live a life on the surface.
The few things that are almost always guaranteed are, pain, heartbreak, infatuation, love, disappointment, betrayal, hope, PMS…and other hormonal issues, change, surprise, and death. (yes, this is my personal list!)
You might say that love is never guaranteed, and I can agree with you that human love isn’t. One can go a lifetime without experiencing real love, or a real human relationship that involves love. Some can’t see it when it’s in front of them, and some spend all their time looking for it.
There is only one relationship that offers us love, without any conditions…and is always guaranteed. A relationship with Jesus Christ. However, many can’t accept it because their perception of Jesus isn’t about love. His name is a swear word, or a name that is used in judgment of their behavior. And that isn’t love. So often our understanding of His love is intertwined with our understanding of human love…one with no guarantees, and many strings attached.
Isn’t it worth investing in the One that does guarantee love? Let’s get to know Him, and absorb His unconditional love for us. There are no strings…and He loves us, warts and all. Maybe it’s time to accept that there is one thing in life that is guaranteed.
