The Big Picture

“It’s just a movie!”

“It’s just a stupid romance novel, what’s the fuss about?”

“It’s my sex life, and what I do is private, why is it anyone’s business what I read or enjoy?”

“Quit being such a prude!”

These are the comments floating around right now. People are divided, sides are being formed. Are we allowing pornography to infiltrate our everyday lives, and is it really a big deal?

It’s actually a HUGE deal! We are praising Jesus in the pew of our church on Sunday mornings, and encouraging our girl friends to read erotica over a cup of tea the same week. How has this happened? And is it my business?

It is, and it should be the business of everyone who follows Jesus. We have become so complacent in our spiritual lives, and so eager to not offend the masses, that we have been bamboozled by the biggest liar of them all.

Since when did the word “sin” become offensive? It’s okay to talk about sadistic sex, but not about Jesus?

What?

Who are we afraid of offending? And why are we afraid of offending them?

I can admit that being on fire for Jesus can be tricky these days. We, as christians, have been called intolerant, and judgmental. And many “christians” are…they hide behind masks of self righteousness and fear. But, as a true follower of Jesus, we need to see the big picture.

This isn’t “just a movie” or just a romance novel. It’s a sign of complacency, and a sign of the times to come. There might be talking heads on TV debating it for a few weeks, but they will find something else to talk about soon enough. The enemy is just waiting it out. He knows that if he waits it out, we will just get bored of the subject and another line has been erased. We are just that much more immune and blind to what he is up to.

And he is destroying our marriages, and the marriages of our children. He is attacking the sanctity of something that was created to be sacred. He has once again shown the world that women mean nothing. And he is using women to spread the message. Hollywood is so proud of having a female author, producer and director take creative control of this latest blockbuster…after all, doesn’t that show that we are living in the age of sexual freedom and expression?

Well, that’s exactly what he wants you to think….

Each time we let something go, and let someone else talk about it, or to fight over it, is it really one less thing we need to take ownership for? Let the world do what they want, we don’t want to offend anyone. We don’t want to be embarrassed and definitely don’t want to be called names.

Think about it…and think about how far we have been desensitized in just the last decade!!!

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Time to wake up!!!
