God Answers…

Yesterday I wrote about confusion and questions. Learning to be persistent in our prayers and honest with ourselves. What happens if God doesn’t seem to answer our prayers, or He does and we don’t like the answer? How does that affect our faith? I was reading in a devotional about a preacher that said, “He who asks God for light must not complain if the light scorches at times with its fierce and naked heat, and he who asks for guidance must not be surprised if God points him to paths he would rather not tread.” Continue reading God Answers…

Confusion

Do you sometimes find the Christian life confusing? Do you admit it to yourself? There seem to be long stretches of time where nothing makes sense. You have no answers to your questions, and definitely nothing for anyone else. Does it make you feel like less of a Christian when you are confused? If it makes you feel any better, even the prophets and kings of the bible felt the same way sometimes.

Habakkuk 1:2 says, “How long, O Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen?” In Psalms 6:1-10, David asks God the same question…”My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long?” v3. Continue reading Confusion

Storms!

All around us right now there is a monster storm. It probably sounds worse than it is…after all, we have a tin roof with no ceiling and screens for windows! It is fantastic to listen to. Can’t talk to anyone, just have to absorb the noise. I don’t do well with storms. I have an unreasonable fear that something bad will happen. I grind my teeth and pray that it will end. Oh, me…of little faith!!! Didn’t Jesus sleep through the big storm? Matthew 8:23-27. Doesn’t He calm the storm? Yes, and He can do the same in other storms as well. Even now…He is in control. I am safe.

The Snob…

I have been told that I come across as a bit of a snob. A bit standoffish. Remote. Scary…was another description. Haha! It’s interesting to see how perceptions and reality can be a bit off at times. I can understand why I come across this way. I use humor and smart remarks to get attention and also to diffuse awkward moments. As I was thinking about this subject, I realized that so many of us carry a shell that we want others to see…while hiding ourselves inside. Continue reading The Snob…

Mind over Matter

Is it possible to force our way to better behavior and to a better mindset? I think so. And is it fake if it works? Have you ever had a person in your life who gets you upset or annoyed every time you see them, or even hear their name? I have some in mine. There are people who make my blood pressure rise. Are they my enemies? No, they are sometimes even friends! Seasons and situations can arise where relationships can be strained, sometimes without one party even knowing about it. With women these situations can be frequent and intense. Sometimes hormonal or from the seasons of the moon, or just miscommunication…any which way, it is all consuming. We spend our hours second guessing ourselves and what we might have said or done. Could we have done something differently? There is a great quote… Continue reading Mind over Matter
