Have you ever heard a new song, and the endorphins kick in, and there is this rush of pure happiness? Studies have shown that our brains get a chemical reaction from hearing a new song for the very first time. Click here to read more about it. I know it’s true for me.

For many years, when I was younger, I dreamt of being a singer. Not the main act, but the back up…you could still belt out the music and not be so noticeable. Haha. I took singing lessons and performed with Whitney Houston, in the comfort and safety of my bedroom. It was a heady rush. Music has always been woven into my soul. I love it. Always will. The music lessons didn’t last. I had such severe stage fright that when I did join the worship team at the church, I had such a problem getting any notes out…I gave up. Still haunts me.

Nowadays my singing is the occasional warble to the tunes I remember from the 80’s…if I hear them on the radio. Usually ending with one of my loves ones covering their ears. Somehow the longing hasn’t gone away. And that doesn’t mean that I don’t hear Jesus talking to me when I hear a song of praise. The funny thing is..a few years ago I went on a fast. It lasted ten days…torture, all of it. Many lessons were learned, but one of the things that I remember the best…is that when I sang, the notes were clear and powerful. I could sing again! Maybe this is something I should think about one of these days. What is the correlation? Hmmm…..

The song that has had made the biggest impact in the last 5 years is this one by Phillips, Craig and Dean. “The Revelation Song” (I was going to put a link up to it…but wasn’t tech savvy enough to get it to work. You can find it on YouTube or iTunes) I think the angels sing along. At least that’s what happens when I hear it and sing along! :). Do you have a song that speaks to you? Do you enjoy singing along on a frequent basis? Have you given up? Starting today…listen to the music around you! Meditate with it…be it Skillet or a Gregorian chant. Music speaks to all of us. For you, it might be just the birds singing in the trees…that’s the beauty of music, we are all different.

Ephesians 5:19-20 “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and singing praise in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to the God and Father”

I love music….and it is one of the main ways God gets my attention…and so often it helps lead me to the unseen. A place with Jesus dreaming and creating…a beautiful place of love, hope, peace and joy:)
