What is your gift? I’m not talking about spiritual gifts at this point. Are you musical, artistic, good at dance? Are you good at growing things or baking things? Do you enjoy crafts? Decorating? Designing? Maybe writing? Drawing or photography? Have you developed any hobbies that relax you and give you sense of satisfaction? And…have you given yourself the time to develop and create with this gift?

There seems to be a resurgence of artisans these days. It’s wonderful to see. I love browsing through Etsy and Pinterest and design blogs. There are so many creative people out there. Yet, I also see many that claim to have no talent, or then they have no time. Or else then we have been given a guilt trip when we “doodle” or spend money at the craft store. Suppose you are supposed to be an artisan and spend your life being creative? And you could get paid well for it? But somehow you feel it isn’t a legitimate way to make a living. Something rings in your mind about the “starving artist” and you don’t want to go down that path and try.

There is a great quote by Steve Jobs…”find what you love to do, get really good at it, and then someday someone will pay you a lot of money to do it for them.” I wish I had heard that when I was younger, and taken it to heart. I’m not saying it’s too late…but I am thinking of all the time I could have been learning and developing my talents. Oh well, regrets don’t belong in my life. I have many years to still enjoy the artistic process. I have many dreams still.

Do you find yourself wishing that you could try something artistic? Why don’t you?Take some time away from tv, social media, or shopping….and go to the local art supply store or place where you can find what you need. Or else dig out the things that you have hiding in a box somewhere. Be creative. Enjoy your gifts. Give glory to God for your talents. He has created you this way. There is no mistake. He loves art…just look at his creation. He is the ultimate artist!

And for those of you who still claim that you have no time or talent…then support those who do. Give them affirmation and praise them for their efforts. It will make both of you feel good.
