We are all connected. There have been studies done that show we are only 7 degrees away from every human on this planet. If you let that sink in, it really does go to show how small our world is…and how interconnected we are. Have you ever had someone talk about a friend and you know either that person or someone in their circle? And I don’t just mean in our small church groups…it is everywhere.
Because of this connection, there can be a very visible butterfly effect, and that happens when we do or say something. Seeing things in hindsight is one way of realizing this…and watching how our choices and words spread is another way. I have seen this when someone comes up to me and says that something that I said or did affected them, and they are living a different life now because of it. This is powerful! Or then something that you have said gets quoted back to you from someone that didn’t hear it from you. It’s all a web that we weave, and it can be so good, or so bad…the choice is really ours.
Knowing that we have this connection, do we ever think of what good we could do with it? Can you imagine what this world would be like if we just said nice and uplifting things about each other, and our experiences? What would you feel like if you had someone come up to you, and tell you that they had heard something nice about you? I know I would feel great.
It is said that if one has had a positive experience, they tell 10 other people about it. And if they have had a negative experience, they tell 100. That says something about the human condition…does this mean that we enjoy talking about negative experiences? Sad, really. What if we started doing the reverse? Let’s start telling 100 people about all the good that we have heard and experienced…and a few select about the bad. 🙂
We could change the connections we have, a spread a little more joy. We could be the reason someone succeeds, or that someone has a good day. That’s a lot of positive power! Something to think about…
